The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted international travel. The New Zealand Government currently recommends that New Zealanders do not travel overseas, but New Zealanders are not prevented from doing so. Despite the international pandemic, professional and high-performance athletes and teams have a number of motivations for travelling overseas to train or compete in international competitions.
Cycling New Zealand continues to regularly review and update its current position with regard to attending international events and/or endorsing international event entries. In recognising this, it is also important to note the duty of care and obligations that Cycling New Zealand (CNZ) have when attending or endorsing any international event entries of which it has entry jurisdiction.
In addition to any current Position Statement, CNZ has established the International Event Entry Process which aims to ensure riders' and their families are fully informed of the risks of traveling at this time, prior to participating in events overseas. The International Event Entry Process also seeks to assist CNZ in fulfilling their health, safety and wellbeing obligations.
