The Cambridge Grand Prix is an International UCI registered C1/C2 event coming to Cambridge on 6-8 January 2023 and will include selective racing for U19, Elite and Para Cyclists (*please read and understand the entry restrictions).

 

It will be an exciting event to come and spectate, with many top names lining up for their chance to claim the sort after UCI points!

INTERNATIONAL RIDERS

Cycling New Zealand can help with subsidised entry fees for international nationalities to race, please email us and ask for a discount code before entering: events@cyclingnewzealand.nz

If you have an international nationality on your UCI ID it is expected that you enter all events in your discipline of sprint or endurance to make up the strict international entries required for the C1/C2 event to be legitimate.

 

ENTRY RESTRICTIONS

For the C1 event we have to meet the strict UCI criteria. If you have a New Zealand Nationality on your licence please be aware when you enter this is not a guaranteed entry to race, we will confirm entries when entries have closed after our number of international riders is confirmed.

Where we are required to manage New Zealand entries to meet the UCI criteria, priority will be given to High Performance squad members to ensure points for future qualification, then to others based on domestic results and performances at Oceania and National Championships.

A few rules we must meet per event for the C1 includes:

  • Minimum 4 participating nations
  • No nation can represent more than 50 percent of the peloton
  • A rider needs 10 Track UCI points to register in Elite events
  • Minimum number of riders - Sprint: 8 riders
  • Minimum number of riders - Keirin: 10 riders
  • Minimum number of riders - Bunch races: 15 riders
  • Minimum number of riders - Madison: 10 teams

A few rules we must meet per event for the C2 includes:

  • Minimum 3 participating nations
  • Minimum number of riders - Sprint: 8 riders
  • Minimum number of riders - Keirin: 10 riders
  • Minimum number of riders - Bunch races: 12 riders
  • Minimum number of riders - Madison: 8 teams

ENTRY WITHDRAWS AND REFUNDS

Entries are not transferable.

Refunds may be available if a withdrawal is requested in writing prior to Sunday 18 December. If accepted a refund of the entry fee less a $20 admin fee will be applied. If you entry is unable to be accepted due to the strict UCI criteria a full refund will be available.

Withdrawals submitted after Sunday 18 December are not eligible for a refund.

LICENCING

All riders, team managers and officials are required to hold a current 2023 UCI Licence with their National Federation. Riders will race in their 2023 category. International riders will be required to email through their international insurance details.

Tickets will be sold at each session from the ticketing desk on Level 2 of the Grassroots Trust Velodrome. Eftpos will be available. There are no online ticket sales.

The team at Velo Addiction will have a stand at the event. On display will be the world-renowned Argon 18 Olympic Rio Pursuit bike and for sale, a very hard to come by, Argon 18 Large Electron Pro Sprint TKO frameset and beginners Electron track framesets, Dolan, world record DF4 framesets. Olympic and world championships wining Bunch Bars, chainrings, sprockets and insights into innovation journey from Velobike. Including highest quality Sugino SG75 144 Black & Silver crank sets, Ceramic BB, Chainring fixing bolts and nuts. Izumi track chains tires and more.

Transfers

Cycling New Zealand may look to assist with transport for international riders who require transport between Auckland International Airport and Cambridge should there be enough interest.

Transport would likely be departing Auckland International Airport on Thursday 5th January and returning on Monday 9th January 2023.

Please note, this service is not guaranteed and would need to be pre-registered on the below form.

 

Public Transport

Bus is the best form of public transport between Auckland International Airport and Cambridge. There is an Intercity bus stop outside St Peter’s School, Cambridge (opposite the Grassroots Trust Velodrome)

Event Accommodation

To assist international riders (to ensure we meet the strict UCI regulations to ensure we can host this event) Cycling New Zealand has a 4 night accommodation grant available for international riders – please see application details below. Priority will be given to individual international riders over teams to assist with meeting the UCI requirement of having 4 nations compete in each event for the event to take place.

 

Please note:

This grant is for 4 nights’ accommodation at St Peter’s School, Cambridge (opposite the Grassroots Trust Velodrome)

Check in is on Thursday 5th January and check out on Monday 9th January only.

The subsidy includes continental breakfast and dinner in the dining hall at St Peter’s School.

Weather

January is in the height of summer in New Zealand and a great time to visit. It is generally dry and warm – average temperature during the day in Cambridge is 24 degrees Celsius. Average Low is 14 degrees Celsius. 

 

Accommodation

January is a popular time for New Zealanders to travel as it is the summer school holidays. There are a lot of motels, hotels, holiday homes and Air BnB’s available to hire. Plus lots of great camping ground – some which include cabins.

 

Tourist Information

If you plan to sightsee outside of the event – New Zealand has so much to see and do. Check out the 100% Pure New Zealand tourism website for ideas on what to do, how to get around and general information about New Zealand.  Cambridge is very central to many tourist hot spots including Rotorua, Taupo, Coromandel, Auckland and nearby beaches like Raglan and Mt Maunganui.

SANCTIONS

The UCI scale of penalties will apply.
 
Any fines issued are on the Team and are payable by the Team Manager to the Commissaires Secretary at the event or riders will be invoiced post event.

 

 

EQUIPMENT

Bicycles must conform with current UCI regulations.
