The Masters Track National Championships (formerly named the Age Group Track National Championships) is New Zealand's premier national track cycling event for masters riders. Held annually in rotation between Cambridge and Invercargill. The 2022 event will be held at the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome in Invercargill from 3 - 5 March.

From 2022, U15 and U17 riders will now be competing at the Track National Championships alongside the U19's, Elites and Para Cyclists. The separation of the Masters event provides the opportunity to include an individual sprint competition which has been advocated for a number of years since its demonstrated popularity at the World Masters Games in 2017.

 

Cycling New Zealand are committed to providing the safest environment for all our cycling community who participate, support and engage with our sport at a national championship level. To enable the best chance for the events to go ahead, Cycling New Zealand will be operating all the 2022 National Championship events as “My Vaccine Pass” events. Entries are now open, please contact your centre to enter.

 

Entries for the Masters Track National Championships are accepted through Cycling New Zealand Road and Track Centres only. Please contact your centre to apply for entry. The Centre is responsible for conducting an appropriate Selection process for all events to ensure that only riders who are competitive at this level are entered in the National Championships.  

 

One entry form per centre is due in no later than 5pm Sunday 20 February, to be emailed to events@cyclingnewzealand.nz

Entries are not transferable.

Withdrawals submitted after Sunday 20 February are not eligible for a refund.

LICENSING

All riders, team managers and officials are required to hold a 2022 Cycling New Zealand License. Riders will race in their 2022 category.

EVENT SCHEDULE

TEAM MANAGERS AND OFFICIALS

Centres will be sent a list of riders and their contact details once entries close. Centre must appoint a Team Manager prior to the event. The Team Manager must attend Confirmation of Starters and the Team Managers meeting, and distribute race numbers, accreditation and any key messages to their riders. 

All Centre officials/handlers must be registered by emailing events@cyclingnewzealand.nz in order to receive accreditation into the in-field. All team officials must have a 2022 Cycling New Zealand Licence. Accreditation can be collected during Confirmation of Starters on Monday afternoon.

Centres are limited to one Team Manager, one assistant Team Manager and one coach. They can also register one additional handler per five riders. 

 

TEAM TRAINING

Training time will be allocated (on request) to each centre. Please contact events@cyclingnewzealand.nz to request a training time slot per Centre. There is a fee of $100 + gst per hour for training time.

All entries will be required to be approved by the representing centre.
Racing will be conducted under UCI regulations and Cycling New Zealand Road & Track racing rules.

 

SANCTIONS

The UCI scale of penalties will apply.
 
Any fines will be invoiced to the Centre post event.

EQUIPMENT

Bicycles must conform with current UCI regulations. 
 
 

RACE KIT

Riders must only wear their approved Centre jerseys and shorts. Shorts may only display sponsors that are detailed on the rider’s racing licence.
 
A start may be refused for any incorrectly attired rider.

A valid My Vaccine Pass is required to enter the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome and to attend this event. This is a requirement for all attendees of the event including; riders, handlers, officials, volunteers, staff and spectators. (Children under the age of 12 years and 3 months do not need to provide a My Vaccine Pass to enter places with a vaccination requirement).

My Vaccine Passes will be scanned and verified at the main reception of the stadium. This is a new process for all involved, we ask that you are patient and understanding with the staff and volunteers who will be doing their best to help you have a great experience at the event.

In the case that the region is under Orange in the Covid Protection Framework, the event will operate as advertised. In the case that the region is changes to Red under the Covid Protection Framework, the event’s Covid-19 Response Plan will be communicated to riders and stakeholders.

In addition to My Vaccine Pass, all stakeholders are encouraged to continue with the other protections available:

  • Stay at home if you are sick (If you have cold or flu symptoms call your doctor or Healthline and make sure you get tested and do not attend the event.)
  • Stay at home if you are awaiting the results from being tested for COVID-19
  • Stay at home if you have been in contact with any known/suspected cases in the past 14 days
  • Stay at home if you have returned or been in contact with anyone else who has returned from overseas in the past 7 days
  • You must sign in using the Contract tracing QR code that is displayed around the event or via the manual sign in form at reception to register their attendance
  • You are encouraged to wear a mask when not participating
  • You are encouraged to maintain physical distancing when not participating
  • Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Wash your hands.
  • Sneeze and cough into your elbow, and regularly disinfect shared surfaces.
  • If you are told by health authorities to self-isolate you must do so immediately and advise organisers.
  • If you’re concerned about your wellbeing or have underlying health conditions, work with your GP to understand how best to stay healthy.
  • If you test positive for Covid-19 following your attendance at the event, please notify the Event Organiser immediately.
  • People will have had different experiences over the last few months. Whatever you’re feeling — it’s okay. Be kind to others. Be kind to yourself.
