Christchurch will host the 2022 Torpedo7 Mountain Bike National Championships for the second year running.

Christchurch Singletrack Club and Gravity Canterbury will work together in support of Cycling New Zealand and Mountain Bike New Zealand to present the action-packed event on 26-27 February, 2022. The cross-country titles will be decided at Crocodile Mountain Bike Park in Kennedy’s Bush on 26 February with the downhill at Christchurch Adventure Park on 27 February.

After hosting a successful event in 2021, the two local clubs are keen to work closely with the national body to continue the momentum and grow the event further.

“Feedback received from racers, spectators and visiting officials from both events was overwhelming, igniting the passion to reapply again in 2022, said Will Keay from Gravity Canterbury.” Both clubs worked extremely hard to prepare for the 2021 event and now have the resources to organise an event of this level again. Hosting events of this nature is a key-step in building capacity to host events of international calibre.”

Cycling New Zealand Events Director, Janette Douglas said: “We are excited to have the ongoing support from Gravity Canterbury and Christchurch Singletrack which has secured the return of the championships to Christchurch.”

“After a hugely successful 2021 championships, we are once again looking forward to working closely with our host clubs to further increase capability across the sport with a shared focus to support the long-term goals for Cycling New Zealand and Christchurch for hosting major events in the city.”

Cycling New Zealand are grateful to have Torpedo7 on board as naming partner for the event for the second year.

Torpedo7 is thrilled to continue supporting mountain bike enthusiasts through our ongoing naming sponsorship of the MTB National Championships. This event reminds us New Zealand has epic mountain biking trails right on our doorstep, and it reinforces why the sport continues to grow in popularity every year. We continue to be proud of helping Kiwi’s get out there.” said Simon West, CEO of Torpedo7.

Entries will be open from 6 December while dates and venues for the 2022 MTBNZ National Downhill (DHI) Series and 2022 MTBNZ Cross-Country (XCO) Race will be announced next week.
