2019 Road Riders of the Year announced

 

The 2019 Cycling New Zealand Road Riders of the Year were announced this week.

These annual awards were established by Cycling New Zealand Road & Track to recognise outstanding performances in cycling through a calendar year and are awarded at a Junior and Senior Level.

We congratulate the following athletes for their achievements:

Female Emerging Talent of the Year – Niamh Fisher-Black
In recognition of her strong season as a first year elite rider in Europe, in particular a series of excellent performances in youth categories with a second place at the Giro delle Marche in Rosa.

Male Emerging Talent of the Year – Corbin Strong
In recognition of his strong season as a first year elite rider in Asia, in particular winning the youth categories at the Tour de Korea and Tour de Kumano.

Junior Female Road Rider of the Year – Ella Wyllie
In recognition of a consistent season as a first year U19 rider, beginning with victories at the National Championships and Oceania Championships.  Particular highlights were a strong tenth place in the Time Trial at the Junior World Championships.

Junior Male Road Rider of the Year – Reuben Thompson
In recognition of an excellent first season in Europe as an U19 rider, in particular a third placing at the Grand Prix de Plouay and a strong sixth place in general classification at the Ain Bugey Valromey Tour.

Female Road Rider of the Year – Ella Harris
In recognition of Ella’s strong season in Europe, the highlight being her second place in the youth classification at the Woman’s World Tour Emakumeen XXXII Bira, further establishing her on the International stage. 

Male Road Rider of the Year – Patrick Bevin
In recognition of Paddy’s continued rise as a strong Time Trialist on the world stage.  His fourth placing at the World Road Championships was a standout.
