Former national representative cyclist, Myron Simpson has been appointed coach of the Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Performance Hub programme. Simpson has a significant background in international road and track cycling having competed in Europe, Asia and North America.
Following a successful track cycling career which included a silver medal in the Omnium at the 2007 UCI Junior Track World Championships in Mexico and competing in the Delhi Commonwealth Games, Simpson's focus switched to the road, competing with pro continental teams. However, his career was cut short with a serious shoulder injury. In 2014, Simpson was called into the New Zealand track cycling team, claiming a silver medal at the UCI World Cup in London, and in recent times has established himself as a promising young coach.

Training and Development

With riders from all over the wider Auckland region, greater emphasis is put on self-management and time as a group is extremely valuable. Group strength and conditioning sessions are held at AUT’s North Shore Campus, and riders also attend 2-3 gym sessions a week on their own. Through busy training periods and leading into competitions, key skill sessions are run at competition venues, Manukau Velodrome and the Avantidrome in Cambridge. Training camps are held throughout the year with a focus on goal setting, technical skill, strength and conditioning and mental skills. Hub riders also have the opportunity to interact and hear from New Zealand's current professional riders to get an insight into life as a professional cyclist overseas.
