Talent ID and Development
Talent Identification
Cycling New Zealand runs regular Talent ID camps nationwide, designed to uncover and support the next generation of high-performance Para cyclists.
If you have a physical or visual impairment and a strong background in sport or fitness, you could have what it takes to compete on the world stage. At our camps, athletes are introduced to para cycling, tested in a supportive environment, and guided by experienced coaches who understand both performance and pathway development.
These sessions are about more than just identifying talent — they are about giving people the chance to experience the sport, learn new skills, and discover their potential. Many of New Zealand’s Paralympic and World Championship riders first connected with the programme through a Talent ID camp.

High Performance Development Pathway
Developed through a collaborative effort, the High Performance Development Pathway provides a clear and structured framework to support the identification and progression of Para cyclists across Aotearoa.
It has been designed with a strong focus on athlete development, while also fostering a high-performance mindset from the outset.
Our goal is to ensure that individuals with potential, drive, and determination are given every opportunity to develop within an environment that is both supportive and performance-focused.
The High Performance Development Pathway outlines key stages of progression for emerging and developing athletes, with a view to preparing them for international podium success.
Whether athletes are new to the sport or already progressing through the system, we hope this pathway offers the guidance and structure needed to achieve their goals.
