Canterbury teenager Winni Goldsbury is in third place after the first day of a challenging third round of the UCI Enduro MTB World Series in Trentino, northern Italy.
Goldsbury, who won the last round in Austria, is 12 seconds behind leader Ella Conolly (AUS) after a tough day of climbing and challenging timed descents.
The long and physical day was made more challenging with overnight rain.
The kiwi teenager is 12 seconds behind leader Ella Conolly (GBR), with fellow kiwi George Swift, the e-enduro world champion, 37sec behind the leader, with a further four stages tomorrow
“It was quite warm, quite sore, quite challenging but we are alive and kicking and that’s good. The uphill climbs were difficult, but I also popped out my ankle but that’s a Winni problem not an everyone-else problem,” said Goldsbury.
“The climbing was hard but not that technical. I prefer technical courses so this is not my favourite one but it is the most beautiful place in the world to ride,” she said of the course in the Dolomites World Heritage region.
The kiwi men were well back, led by Auckland’s Bradley Harris who is 47s behind leader Thommaso Calonaci from Italy.
