Goldsbury earns podium in weather-hit UCI enduro MTB in Italy

New Zealand rider Winni Goldsbury has earned her third straight podium after wild weather disrupted the final day of the third round in the UCI Enduro MTB World Series in Trentino, northern Italy.

Goldsbury was second overall in the elite women’s rankings going into the Italian round, initially planned for three stages on day one and four stages today. However, an electrical storm through the Dolomites region brought major changes, with the elite women completing two shorter sections and the elite men just the final stage.

The Christchurch teenager finished third overall to be in third placing in the overall series, which is led by French rider Melanie Pugin, who claimed the honours in the disrupted contest today.

Great Britain’s Ella Conolly edged Goldsbury in the final stage to claim second overall and also the lead in the championship. The New Zealander lies in third in the championship with only 90 points separating the top three riders.

Fellow kiwi George Swift finished seventh today and is in seventh overall in the championship.

Auckland rider Bradley Harris was the best of the New Zealand elite men in 40th of the 125 starters.

The fourth round of the UCI Enduro World Cup is at the Italian mountain resort of La Thuile nestled near the French border and Mont Blanc next weekend.
