Persistent strong winds forced the cancellation of the finals of the 2026 UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Brisbane. The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced the cancellation in the interest of rider safety at the venue.
Following repeated assessments of the prevailing weather conditions, it was determined that safe racing could not be conducted within the available competition window. The decision was taken with the support of the UCI Athletes' Commission representative on site, the National Federation Team Managers, and the Local Organising Committee.
Podiums were decided on times recorded in the limited qualifying races. Cambridge rider Lily Greenough was the best of the kiwi riders in fourth place in her first year in the under-23 elite women. North Harbour’s Rico Bearman was fifth in the elite men, with the pair the only kiwis in the top-10.
Officials are hopeful of improving conditions with 3,000 riders set to begin the age-group challenge racing on the smaller 5m start ramp.
