New Zealand Track Cyclist Nick Kergozou is unable to compete at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after sustaining a back injury during training.
Kergozou is in hospital in a stable condition and is being supported by his family. He’s expected to make a full recovery.
Fellow New Zealand Team Track Cyclist, Keegan Hornblow, will replace him in the Men’s Pursuit event.
New Zealand Team Chef de Mission, Nigel Avery, expressed the team’s sympathy for Kergozou.
“We know this is a hugely disappointing outcome for Nick after all his hard work in getting to the Games. The New Zealand Team is right behind him as he now focuses on recovery and we look forward to seeing him back in competition when he’s ready.”
