In Person Para Cycling Activation Days
Wellington, Southland and West Coast
Cycling New Zealand will be hitting the road soon, bringing hands-on Para cycling activations to three regions. This involves learning about Para cycling in a hands-on way, having a go on the different types of bikes, and then working together to deliver an opportunity for budding Para cyclists in your region, to have a go!
📍 WELLINGTON – Saturday 12 September 2026
We're hosting a free afternoon of Para cycling at the Haitaitai Velodrome, with something for everyone - whether you're curious about how to support Para cyclists in your community, or you've always wondered what it might feel like to get on a trike, tandem, handcycle or to learn about the adaptations that can be made to single bikes.
1:00pm - Community Education Session
For club members, coaches, volunteers and anyone interested in supporting Para cycling in Wellington
Come and learn about the world of Para cycling in a hands-on way - what adaptive bikes look like and how they work (and you can have a go!) and how your club or organisation can play a role in welcoming and supporting disabled cyclists. Cycling New Zealand will be on hand to answer questions and share what's possible in the Wellington region.
2:00pm onwards - Have a Go Session
For disabled people and their whānau, supported by club members, coaches, volunteers and anyone interested in supporting - come along and give it a go!
This is your chance to get on a handcycle, trike, tandem or adapted bike in a safe, supportive and fun environment - no experience necessary. But just as importantly, it's a chance to meet the coaches, club members and community connections who can help you find your place in cycling going forward. This session will run for 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on numbers and energy!
Whether you're ready to ride or just want to come and see what it's all about and have a chat, you are very welcome.
Both sessions are free. All are welcome - Haitaitai Velodrome, Wellington Saturday 12 September 2026

📍 SOUTHLAND – Wednesday 30 September 2026
Cycling New Zealand is heading south as part of our “Ride Together” initiative. Southland has a proud history of supporting Para cyclists, and we're keen to ensure this tradition continues and spark some new conversations about what's possible in the South.
We're hosting a free evening at the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome - with something for everyone, whether you're looking to deepen your knowledge of Para cycling, get hands-on with the bikes, or simply come along for a ride and a kōrero.
5:00pm - Community Education Session - Legends Lounge
For club members, coaches, volunteers and anyone with an interest in Para cycling in the South
Join us for a hands-on look at the world of Para cycling - classifications, pathways, and the different types of adaptive bikes and how they work. We'll then head down to the track to get up close with the equipment. Cycling New Zealand will be on hand to share what's happening nationally and to hear from, and work with you.
