About
What is Para Cycling?
Para Cycling provides competitive and recreational opportunities for riders with physical or visual impairments, using adapted bikes such as tandems, handcycles, tricycles, and standard bicycles. The sport is inclusive, fast-growing, and proudly represented across New Zealand.
Para Cycling includes athletes with a range of impairments that participate in road and track cycling at all levels — from community programmes to high-performance competition. Riders compete in different equipment categories depending on their impairment and functional ability.
The sport is organised internationally by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and nationally by Cycling New Zealand, in partnership with Paralympics New Zealand.
