Greenough bags double podium in BMX Racing World Cup in China

Girlpower led the way for New Zealand BMXers in the latest rounds of the UCI BMX Racing World Cup in China today.

Cambridge teenager Lily Greenough, last year’s junior world champion, enjoyed two podiums in the double round in Mentougou near Beijing.

Greenough was third in the junior women’s final on Saturday and went one better to be runner-up on day two, behind British rider Freia Challis.

She is now second overall behind the British rider, with four more rounds in the championship, this weekend at altitude in Chongli, China, a host city of the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Paris Olympian Leila Walker enjoyed her best finish this year with a fifth placing in the elite women’s final, less than half a second from runner-up. She enjoyed some strong form on the second day after going out in the quarterfinals on day one.

Best of the elite men was Cambridge rider Bennett Greenough who made the quarterfinals today while brother Jack made the quarterfinals on day one, where he was the best ranked Kiwi male.
