PNZ Bupa Inclusive Para Sport Grant
Ride Together - Cycling New Zealand's PNZ Bupa Inclusive Para Sport - Para cycling Initiative
About the PNZ Bupa Inclusive Para Sport Grant
The PNZ Bupa Inclusive Para Sport Grant supports sport and community organisations to deliver initiatives that increase participation in Para sport, reduce barriers for disabled people, and strengthen pathways from community to Paralympic level.
About Ride Together
Ride Together is Cycling New Zealand's response to a simple but important question: how do we make sure that everyone who wants to ride, can ride?
Currently, Para cycling participation in many parts of New Zealand is limited by a shortage of knowledge, adaptive equipment, and visible entry points into the sport. Ride Together is designed to change that.
The programme has three components:
A national online education session
Open to cycling clubs, coaches, volunteers, schools and community organisations from across Aotearoa. The session covers Para cycling classifications, inclusive club practice, adaptive equipment, and how to identify and support Para cyclists in your community. Hear from Cycling New Zealand staff and from High Performance Para cyclists about their journeys into the sport.
Three regional in-person activation days
We're hitting the road to bring hands-on Para cycling experiences to Wellington, Southland and the West Coast - three regions with limited existing Para cycling activity and communities that are ready and keen to get involved. Each activation day combines a community education session for clubs, coaches and volunteers with a 'Have a Go' opportunity for disabled people to trial adaptive bikes - handcycles, trikes, tandems and adapted single bikes - in a safe, welcoming environment.
A transportable development kete
A shared pool of adaptive cycling equipment that travels between regional activation days and remains available to regional cycling communities beyond the programme, creating lasting access to equipment where it's needed most.
Ride Together will directly benefit 100+ people across the four sessions, and the connections, capability and equipment it leaves behind will continue to support Para cycling growth in these regions well into the future.
Get involved
Whether you're a cycling club wanting to be more inclusive, a disabled person curious about getting on a bike, or a coach looking to develop your Para cycling knowledge - Ride Together has something for you:
EQUIPMENT SURVEY
We are keen to find out what Para cycling equipment is out there, hidden away in sheds, that maybe someone could be using (equipment being a major barrier for many people).
If you have anything you think might be useful, please fill out this survey: Para cycling Equipment Inventory – Fill in form
TANDEM PILOTS
We’re also gathering information on tandem pilots around the country - experienced and aspiring - to help match pilots with current /potential vision impaired riders and identify training opportunities across the regions.
If you are a current pilot or you are keen to learn, fill in this form: Tandem Pilot Survey – Fill in form
