BMX New Zealand, the Mainland South Region and the Dunedin BMX Club are proud to host and present the 2023 South Island Titles. The premier ranking event for BMX racing in the South Island.

This event will see the best riders from the South along with riders travelling from the North to take away the 'SI' ranking plates for each of the age group of offer, from the 8yr olds through to 50+ seniors

The Dunedin BMX Club will be using its fantastic National Standard track  that will present a new challenge for all riders.

Along with the Titles on offer the event is the first round of the 2023 BMXNZ National Series & it is a National Qualifying Meeting (NQM) for the 2024 National Championships. The event is a designated Category 6 event and will follow the regulations of this category.

This is a TRANSPONDER event

Working together with he riders, BMXNZ has working is the first ever round of the MEYBO CRNKIT Series within the South Island Titles event. This a will be run along side the age groups classes an will allow rider to race for their SI ranking as well as a superclass purse.

Entry is complete only when payment is confirmed. Payment process will follow the entry. Use credit card on the site provided or POLi PAY direct transfer.

BMXNZ reserves the right to refuse entry to any person.

No refunds will be given after Friday 6 January 2023 for any reason. Refund prior to this will be given on receipt of medical certificate, less administration fee of $20.

All riders must ENTER THEMSELVES. Supply all detail as requested, check entry detail & confirm entry.

 

LIVE RIDER LISTS will be shown online at https://bmxevents.nz/rider-lists/ & update daily from the entry detail input by the entrants. Any corrections must be supplied to the entry admin prior to entry close. Changes after entry close will result in a $50 change fee.

FINAL entry lists will be sorted by CLUB and will supplied to the Club Managers to organise the collection & distribution of race plates at the event.

LICENCE REQUIREMENTS: All riders MUST hold a 2023 BMXNZ RACE LICENCE  (Challenge, Championship or Sprocket) by 1st January 2023

COVID REQUIREMENTS: Please be aware that the sport 'may' need to conform to any Health Requirements. BMXNZ will advise this requirement as it becomes fully detailed from SportNZ and CyclingNZ. This would cover all attendees, covering all riders, family, supporters, spectators, site visitors, officials and volunteers.

20” – Challenge Classes:

Sprocket: 5&under, 6yrs and 7yrs participation only

Male: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60 plus

Female: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17-24, 25-29, 30-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50 plus

 

Cruiser – Challenge Classes:

Male: 8-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60plus

Female: 8-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50 plus

 

Championship Classes:

Female: Jnr, U23 & Elite

Male: Jnr, U23 & Elite

 

Open Wheel - Retro Class:

Male: 30-39 or 40+

The track may be available prior to official times listed below.

The club will issue a timetable when available.

 

FRIDAY - PRACTICE DAY

RACE PLATE COLLECTION: 3.00pm-5.00pm Club Managers only to collect

Rider registration by transponder check: 3.00pm-6.30pm

Practice Sessions:

3.30pm-4.00pm  20" 7&under

4.00pm-5.00pm  20" & CR 8-12yrs

5.00pm-6.15pm  20" & CR 13+yrs

6.15pm-6.45pm Championship Class

All transponders MUST be checked onsite prior to racing, this check is your event registration process. This will be done at the check point near the Admin hut. The process is a simple roll over of a mat loop & then checking your detail on a screen.  Any detail errors must be noted with event admin immediately. This process can be done at anytime during the FRIDAY and SATURDAY practice times.

This will be held trackside Sunday 9 January, approximately 30 minutes after the finish of racing.

 

 

 

RACING FORMAT

MOTO DRAW:                     

Race system in use defines moto/lane draws. Qtr. and Semi Finals – snake seeding method

 

LANE DRAW SELECTION:

Quarters, Semis and Main Finals Only. Order of lane choice based on count back to moto points or previous final.

 

MINIMUM CLASS SIZE       

6 riders will constitute a class (amalgamations will be done as required). Class sizes will be determined after the close of entries for trophy allocation purposes.

 

CHAMPIONSHIP, CHALLENGE 20” & CRUISER Classes:

4 motos Saturday, 2 motos Sunday then finals (depending on class sizes)

  8 or less riders:             4 motos Saturday, 3 motos Sunday, points aggregated

9 or more riders:             4 motos Saturday, 2 motos Sunday then;

        9-16 riders:              to deadman final

      17-32 riders:              to deadman semis & deadman final

      33-64 riders:              to quarters,  semis & final (all deadman)

      65-80 riders:              to eighths, quarters, semis & final (all deadman)

 

KIWI SPROCKETS:                 

Riders 7yrs and under will be non-ranking participation classes

Riders who are UCI 8yrs will ride in UCI age classes for this event.  Standard racing formats apply.

  

TIED POSITIONS: 

All tied positions will be separated by Countback. No run-offs will be held.

 

OTHER EVENT REGULATIONS:

RETRO TITLE CLASS:

Bikes used in this class must be 30yrs or older (age on day). For example, in 2022 the bike is to be made in 1992 or earlier. The category will be self-regulated, meaning those who are racing on the day can scrutineer the bikes and parts so as to include or exclude out of specification criteria.  Scrutinising decisions must be unanimously accepted by the class, however, the chief commissaire has the final decision and must be informed of any changes prior to start of racing.

- 20" or 24" bikes may be used

- Classes to be offered for male and female, however, classes may be mixed and/or amalgamated as required to meet minimum class numbers

- One foot starts are required by all starters

- Bikes must have a 1" threaded steerer

- Flat pedals are required

- Calliper brakes only (no Cantilever, V Brakes or disk brakes)

- Tire style/pattern must match the era of the bike. For example Knobbly or Snake-belly tyres (no modern tyres)

- All parts used, eg flat pedals or cranks have to be era correct (no modern design)

- Full race gear as per BMXNZ rule book must be worn. This includes abiding by current helmet specifications (full face helmets, tear resistant race pants, gloves etc)

 

MEYBO CRNKIT SERIES:

This Series round will be delivered in the same format as the usual CRNKIT Series events. Racing will be on Saturday only.

4 motos to A,B,C finals, depending on entries. Amateur straights, open wheel

Prize Pool - $500. Payout to top 11 riders (when 11 or more riders enter). Payout to top 8 riders (when 10 or less riders enter)

Holeshot Awards - $20 to the holeshot winner of A, B and C finals.

 

TRANSPONDERS:

Transponders will be used at this event. Please update your Online Profile with your transponder number BEFORE the entries close -  https://nzbmx.club/riderportal

Sprockets 5&under, 6yrs and 7yrs rider, DO NOT require transponders

 

NUMBER PLATES:                

Special Event Number plates will be issued to riders via the Club Manager and must be used within this event only, including all official practice sessions.

Ranking Plates: Only current World 1-8, Oceania 1-8, NZ 1-8 and also standing SI 1-8 numbers are allowed to be used.  The ranking number must be clearly marked on the entry form.

Non-Ranked Plates:  Riders may select any number between 51 and 999. Riders not choosing to self select a plate number or supplying an incorrect ranking will be issued with randomly selected numbers.

Championship Riders may run their UCI number under the 2022 UCI numbering system. All other riders will be allocated a random plate.

 

CLIP PEDAL REGULATIONS:                

All riders UCI12yrs and below cannot use clip pedals .

 

CONTINGENCY PLANS:

In case of disruption or weather, moto format may be changed, at the discretion of the Chief Commissaire.

 

SCRUTINEERING:

Officials can randomly check riders and bikes before and during the event, including all official practice and warm up sessions. It is recommended that clubs & managers scrutineer all bikes prior to the event.

 

AWARDS & TROPHY ALLOCATION:

Allocation is determined from the time that entries close for Trophy manufacturing purposes. For trophy placings, a count back method will be used to rank riders on equal points at the end of racing

For Challenge & Championship Classes                                                                                                                                      Classes with 8 riders or less:   Trophies and Presentation Plates to 3rd place                                                                        Classes with 9+ riders:           Trophies to 3rd place and Presentation Plates to 8th place

Personalised certificates will be sent to clubs as soon as available.

Sprockets Classes: All riders will receive a event trophy

                 

SECURITY:

There will be security at the track from 6.00 pm to 7.00 am on Friday night and Saturday night. However BMX New Zealand Inc., the host Region and Club accepts no responsibility for theft or damage to property.

BMXNZ, the Mainland South Region & Dunedin BMX Club will comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 by committing to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all riders, families and visitors to the BMX Event facility.  It is the sports policy to “make every practical and reasonable effort to protect all visitors, to prevent accidents or serious harm injuries and promote safety and welfare of all persons while on the event facility”.   

BMXNZ, the Mainland South Region & Dunedin BMX Club will take all possible steps to list and evaluate hazards and to determine solutions to eliminate or minimise those hazards as part of the Risk Management Plan (RMP), to meet the sports policy noted above. This RMP will include all requirements under the relevant MOH COVID LEVEL guidelines for a sporting gathering. These requirements will be mandatory for ALL participants.

BMX Racing is an action sport & inherently has risks that are accepted as part of sport. All known risks are noted in the BMXNZ Major Meeting RMP & this is available onsite during the event. Parties wanting to assess the RMP prior to entry must contact the club for detail. Entry to this event confirms an understanding of the risks of the sport as noted in the RMP. In the event of injury to an event participant, a completed entry is consent to proper medical treatment being administered. Event entry also consents to submit to drug testing if required. All entrants agree to be bound by the regulations and general conditions for this event as published by BMXNZ in its latest rule book.  Any reference to BMXNZ within this flyer or entry is referring to BMX New Zealand Inc.
