Six New Zealanders appointed to UCI Commissions

There are a record number of six New Zealand cycling administrators who have been voted on to various commissions of the sport’s ruling body, the UCI.

Current UCI Management Committee member, Tony Mitchell, the ormer chair of Cycling New Zealand, said he was thrilled with such a large number of New Zealander appointed to a range of commissions that manage the sport.

“The two new appointments in John McDonnell and Haimona Ngata means a very strong representation for New Zealand on the global stage,” said Tony.

“That is two more than what New Zealand has had for the last four years and six more than what we had before that. It’s great for the Oceania region and specifically New Zealand cycling.”

Mitchell, the current chairman for Oceania Cycling Federation, has been appointed to three further portfolios for the UCI as President for the Cycling For All and Sustainability Commission, President of Equipment and New Technology Commission and a member of the Audit and Finance Committee.

McDonnell joins the Commissaries Commission and Ngata the BMX Freestyle Commission.

Three New Zealander shave been re-appointed with Malcolm Thomas returning to the Mountain Bike Commission; Sarah Walker on the BMX Racing Commission and former Cycling New Zealand Chairman, Richard Leggat on the Ethics Commission.
