Cycling New Zealand has confirmed that Dunedin will host a double-header of UCI Mountain Bike racing in January.

The Design Windows Oceania Mountain Bike Championships will be hosted in conjunction with the already announced Altherm National Mountain Bike Championships, providing two opportunities for New Zealand riders to win coveted titles over three days of racing.

The doubleheader will be held at Signal Hill in Dunedin from 24 -26 January 2020.  
 
The event is organised and sanctioned by Cycling New Zealand with the support of the host club Mountain Biking Otago.

Please note there is a limit of entrants for both Oceania and National DHI.  Entries will be accepted on a 'first come' basis.  International riders will be considered entry as a 'Ghost rider' should the capacity not be reached - please email events@cyclingnewzealand.nz to register on this wait list.
 

ENTRY ELIGIBILITY AND CRITERIA FOR 2020 ALTHERM NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

UCI Categories

  • Open to all NZL Riders (only). Note: If the DHI capacity has not reached International DHI riders entries will be accepted but they will be considered a 'Ghost Rider' and will not be eligible for any medals or prizes.
  • All riders must hold an appropriate 2020 Cycling New Zealand Licence (Elite/U23 = Adult Licence, U19 = Youth Licence) AND
  • All riders must be a paid and current member of a MTBNZ/CNZ Affiliated MTB Club
  • No Late entries accepted.  All entries must be received online on or before 20th January
  • With respect to the Elite/U23 Combined race, riders should be able to demonstrate racing experience at elite level. 

Non-UCI Categories

  • Open to all riders of all nationalities
  • All riders must hold either an appropriate 2020 Cycling New Zealand Licence (Masters, Sport (age dependant) = Adult, U15, U17 = Youth Licence) OR
  • Paid the additional fees and receive a 'One Day' Cycling New Zealand Licence AND
  • All riders must be a paid and current member of a MTBNZ/CNZ Affiliated MTB Club 
  • Late entries will be accepted at the event up to 12 midday Saturday if field limits have not been reached.  Additional Fees are payable.

MEMBERSHIP AND LICENCING

All riders must be current and paid members of a 2020 Affiliated MTB Club* (affiliated to MTBNZ and CNZ).  This is separate from the licensing requirements (see below). 
All UCI Category riders  MUST have a 2020 Cycling New Zealand Licence
Non-UCI Category riders may have a 2020 Cycling New Zealand Licence OR enter as a non-licenced rider and receive a one-day licence.

*AFFILIATED CLUBS: In addition to the licences, all riders are required to be a member of an ‘MTBNZ and Cycling New Zealand Affiliated Club (2020).  The list of currently affiliated clubs here.  If you are not a member of one of these clubs then please speak to your club in regards to their affiliation plans.  If they are not intending to affiliate in 2020, our host club, (Mountain Biking Otago) are offering one-day membership for $10 (payable).  Any riders not showing an affiliated club at time of registration will be required to provide proof of membership to an affiliated club or purchase a one-day membership (cash) at Registration.

WITHDRAWALS/REFUNDS

Withdrawals received before 20 January 2020 may be eligible for a refund upon presentation of a medical certificate.  Requests are to be emailed to events@cyclingnewzealand.nz.  If accepted, a refund of the entry fee less $20 will be payable.

Elite - Riders aged 23 or over (as at 31 December 2020)

U23 - Riders aged between 19 - 22 (as at 31 December 2020)

National Championships only: The Elite/U23 race will be run as a COMBINED RACE (Only 3 medals awarded).  In the case of a U23 winning the Combined Race only one (Elite) National Jersey will be awarded to that rider. In the case of an Elite winning the Combined Race, the winner will be awarded with an Elite National Jersey and the first placed U23 rider will be awarded with a U23 National Jersey.


U19 (Junior) - Riders aged between 17 - 18 (as at 31 December 2020)
The winner will be awarded the Junior National Jersey.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

The safety of the riders, officials, volunteer and spectators are included in the event planning. 
 
The event takes place a forestry area. It is your responsibility to manage your own safety during training, practice and during event.  Be aware of other forestry users at all times and to make responsible decisions. 
 
If you have any questions or concerns regarding Health and Safety please report to the Chief Commissaire or to the Race Manager

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Rules

The event will be conducted under UCI regulations and the Mountain Bike New Zealand Technical Regulations (including the Protection Policy - see section 6)
 

Sanctions

The UCI scale of penalties will apply.
 

Equipment

Bicycles must conform with current UCI regulations. 
 
All riders must adhere to the Protection Policy as per Section 6 of the Mountain Bike New Zealand Technical Regulations
 
If issued, all riders will be required to attach timing transponders to their bikes, to enable the electronic timing to operate. These will be provided in the race pack.
